The Super Side Note feat. Catherine of Chic Geek
The chicest geek I ever did meet!
āā¦.these are a few of her favorite things .ā
Does it ever amaze you how quickly your virtual ( and seemingly imaginary) friends on social media become people you genuinely admire in real life? People whose social media accounts you follow and feel like you go through various stages of life with: marriage, babies, careers, higher education, vacations, new hobbies, etc. People whose story inspires your own. Moreover, do we ever stop our scroll to tell people how much their content *positively* inspires us?
The kind of inspiration Iām talking about is precisely what you will find here today in this weekā super side note, featuring the creator behind an account I absolutely adore, Catherine of ChicGeekCC.
I started following Catherine back in 2021 (thank you algorithm!) and I immediately loved her ārealnessā. Catherine is the OG of rattan furniture and when she shared this wicker rattan side table on Instagram, I immediately asked her for the info. Mind you, this was before the days of ManyChat and ācomment TABLE and I will send you this linkā¦ā, on Instagram posts like we see today. She so graciously sent me the link for this table that constantly was selling out along with the nicest message.

Additionally, Catherine counseled me on my very first Miracle Balm shade (seen here in action), inspires me to carve out time every day to give some love back to my body through these fabulous bite-sized workouts, and so much more.
I have a deep appreciation for anything she puts on instagram as I know how hard she works to carve out the time to ācreateā with THREE little ones at home. I am thrilled for you to get to know her a little more here today. Trust me when I say, she is a fantastic follow - a built in cheerleader and as positive and authentic as they come.
Cheers to the content that connects us and the creators behind them. This is your reminder to tell someone who inspires you, how impacted you are by the work they produce.
Viva la Geek!
An extra warm welcome to anyone new hereāI'm so glad youāve joined! While this is mostly a needlepoint blog, the #SuperSideNote is where I share everything beyond the stitches (you can find the origin story linked here). Your time is valuable, and my goal is to make every moment you spend here feel like time well spent.
āI do try to make time for reading and am really enjoying my current selections. Iām just finishing The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins as a personal read. For parenting, Iām reading The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt. My last āfunā read was Swan Song by Elin Hilderbrand, which she released alongside the announcement of her retirement. Luckily for us, the story doesnāt end thereāElin is teaming up with her daughter, Shelby Cunningham, for a new novel titled The Academy, set to be released this September!ā
āI love fashion and discuss it ad nauseam on Instagram (guilty as charged). Lately, Iāve been focusing on indulgent-yet-practical purchases.
Hear me out: these are pieces I actually wear on repeat. The quality, fit, and materials are all exceptional, which makes them feel like smart investments.
Take the Sunday suit by Left on Friday, for example. I am always swimming with my family and this suit checks all the boxes. Itās flattering, buttery soft and extremely functional. The same can be said of their activewear! I love working out in my Left on Friday.ā
Check out more of Catherineās style here (trust me, itās good!)

āI love pizza and canāt resist indulging at least once a week! But lately, Iāve also been focusing on getting more protein into my diet. A quick and satisfying snack Iāve been enjoying is Oikos Pro Complete Protein Yogurt because thereās no added sugar and 20 grams of protein. Just add some fresh berries, and youāre all set!ā

āThere are so many amazing opportunities to support women-owned small businesses in the needlepoint community. Hear Hear!
I Just picked up a canvas from Sunny, the talented founder of Tigre de Tartan. Her two-tiger emblem was meant for me (tigers were the mascot at the high school my husband and I attended together!) Iām turning it into a bag charm and couldnāt be more excited. Sunny also curates an awesome collection of both needlepoint and Mahjong pieces- and donāt miss her stylish bag inserts, either!ā
(Super Side Note: I co-sign on this endorsement: Iāve chatted about my Tigre love here, here and here. Some of my absolute favorites!)

āKINDERGARTEN orientation! My middle is off to K next year and Iām so excited for her to visit this week and get acquainted with what will be here new school community! She will be joining her elder sister and suddenly Iāll only have one preschooler left (my youngest)!ā
Super Side Note: My (Emily speaking) oldest is heading off to Kindergarten also and I am UNWELL at the thought of it. Where is time going?!
The old adage āThe days are long but the years are short,ā couldnāt be more true. It feels like just yesterday I had a three-year-old, a two-year-old, and a newborn! A sweet reminder to embrace the chaos and cherish every moment of this fleeting season.
Thank you Catherine for all the beauty, style and grace you share with the rest of us. We are so grateful for you!
