For the Week: 7-28-24
For as long as I can remember, my love for books has remained a steady beacon in my life, offering the same comforting escape and endless curiosity it always has. Yet, this love has also evolved, deepening as I’ve grown to appreciate the diverse voices and perspectives that literature has to offer. Whether it’s curling up with a classic or diving into a fresh, thought-provoking and introspective novel, the joy of reading continues to bring me solace and inspiration just as it did when I was a little girl.
It still amazes me how a simple book can still be a treasured companion, inviting us into new worlds while reflecting on the changes within our own.
Earlier this summer, we celebrated my cousin’s high school graduation and I gifted him the book Atomic Habits (linked here) and in the card I wrote, “I wish I had this book when I was your age”. It made me think about the books I have read which have helped me both blossom into who I am today and appreciate the journey towards who I am becoming. The books I wish would have been available to read years ago. The books I always give as gifts and recommend to others.
I hope this little list inspires you to think about the books that have helped shape you into who you are. I would LOVE to hear what books are your favorite. Comment in the chat section where I’ve started a thread about this very topic. ❤️
The Book I Read Once A Year: Atomic Habits by James Clear
The creme de la creme in my (very) humble opinion and the book that changed my life (I say this in the least dramatic way possible). I read this annually and constantly recommend it to others. Perfect for literally anyone at any stage in their life, this book will help you make tangible traction (that sticks) in every aspect of your life.

For the Recovering Perfectionist: Grace Not Perfection by Emily Ley
For all the recovering perfectionists out there (like yours truly), this book made such a profound impact on how I view everything from my self-worth to my work ethic and all the self-narratives in between. We pay A LOT when we hold ourselves to a standard of “perfection” and man do we overlook the gift of grace when we do so. A fabulous book to gift to yourself (or someone you love). There’s even a special copy for young readers that I have on deck to give to my girls when they come of age.

Confidence That Will Last A Lifetime: Bobbi Brown’s “Beauty From the Inside Out”
I vividly remember my 7th grade self (who had just discovered makeup) checking out one of Bobbi’s makeup artistry books from the library.
has always been an icon of mine and her ethos is one that empowers women to celebrate who you are, exactly as you are (oh and the best way to line your eyes so you don’t look tired). This book is an incredible reminder that beauty always starts from within: how you treat yourself, how you treat others, the foods we eat and the ways we can put our best “face” forward no matter what.#SuperSideNote: this cover color always makes me happy when I see it on my desk

Your Built In Best Friend: “Girl Wash Your Face” by Rachel Hollis
They don’t come any more “real” than Rachel Hollis. This book made me feel like I was talking to my best friend in the entire world who also gave the best kick-in-the-pants advice for navigating all the things. I would have viewed so many opportunities and obstacles differently had I read this when I was younger, but am grateful to be equipped with it now.
Worth noting: this book also made me actually laugh out loud while reading it

Show Me the Money: “Love Your Life Not Theirs” by Rachel Cruze
As a millennial, it’s safe to say our generation really grew up as the internet did, specifically, social media. How quickly we became accustomed to comparing our lives with the lives of others (or at least the parts we see on social media) AND how much that comparison really cost us in the long run. Our relationship with money is equal parts personal, delicate and imperative to take a hard look at if we want long term financial freedom and this book addresses it all. My entire outlook on personal finances (and contentment) changed when I picked up this book.

Final Thoughts:
Perspective is everything…..
