The Head Stitch in Charge: Bicoastal Stitches 🌊🪡🍎
The story behind the coast to coast stitcher & needlepoint influencer.
For this installment of “The Head Stitch In Charge” I am beyond thrilled to present my dear friend
(check her out on Substack here). Our paths crossed shortly after I began this blog. I had posted a reel about selecting my finishing fabric for a pillow I was stitching BEFORE I selected my fibers (or threads) and how that simple shift made a world of difference. Truth be told, I wasn’t even sure if what I shared would resonate with viewers, but I shared it anyways.*You can watch the post referenced above by clicking here ⬇️)
Lo and behold, someone did see my post and that someone was
. From there a friendship was quickly formed and we even did a collaborative post together about #fabricb4fiber on our Substacks (you can read it here and below ⬇️).Always a breath of fresh air to talk with, I was thrilled when she agreed to do my first ever Instagram live with me as “The Head Stitch In Charge”. I hope you enjoy reading and watching this as much as we did putting it together!
How and when did you learn to needlepoint? I was first introduced to needlepoint by Kiana at West Village Knit and Needle. When I moved to NYC, I happened to live just a block away, and one day I wandered into the shop, curious to try something new. I didn’t know much about needlepoint or anyone who did it at the time, but that spontaneous moment sparked my journey into this craft. You can read more about how it all began in my Substack post here.
What was the first project you stitched? My first project was a mini street sign that said "West Village," designed by Bad Bitch Needlepoint (click here to shop). I stitched it in DMC without plying. But my first significant project was Two Peacocks by SCT Designs (click here to shop)

What are you working on now? So many things! A few of them include Coco Frank's Barcelona Travel Round and G&H Canvas Co.'s Negroni. The list truly goes on and on.

What's one project you have in your stash that you have lost steam on? #WIPLash I started working on a 12x12 Klimt-inspired canvas on 18 mesh (similar linked here), using Kreinik basketweave for the background. I’m incredibly into art, especially Klimt—honestly, I wish I could be Aerin Lauder for many reasons, but mainly because her family owns so many Klimts! When I’m not needlepointing, I love visiting galleries, museums, and auctions.

What's one piece of advice you wish you could tell your beginner needlepoint self? I didn’t fully understand the finishing process when I first started, so I would’ve encouraged myself to do a bit more research on that upfront. Also, it's important to let go of projects you don’t love. If you're not enjoying your first project, it’s okay to move on and find something more exciting. My tastes have definitely evolved since I first started stitching.
